Janne Malmivaara, Tanja Nisonen and Anni Pokki remain on the board. In addition, a steering group appointed by the Finnish Cultural Foundation has started its work.
The new board of trustees of the Instrument Academies Association has taken office. Tuula Sarotie and Erkki Liikanen have been elected as new board members. Sarotie was also elected as the new chair of the board.
Erkki Liikanen is known for his work as former Governor of the Bank of Finland and former chair of the board of the Association of Finnish Symphony Orchestras. Tuula Sarotie is widely respected in the world of classical music and is best known as the long-time General Manager of the Radio Symphony Orchestra.
"The Instrument Academies complement the structures of Finnish music education and have already achieved significant results with talented young musicians. I see their impact growing in a sector characterised by increasing internationalisation and fierce competition for jobs. I am delighted to support the great work of the academies as a board member," says Tuula Sarotie.
Janne Malmivaara from the String Academy, Tanja Nisonen from the Brass Academy and Anni Pokki from the Youth Piano Academy Finland will continue as board members. Anni Pokki will serve as vice-chair of the board and Ninni Sulva-Vakkilainen, Executive Director of the Instrument Academies Association, will serve as the board's rapporteur.
A key funder of the Instrument Academies, the Finnish Cultural Foundation appointed a steering group for the Instrument Academies in December 2024, serving until the end of 2027.
The members of the Steering Group are Emilie Gardberg, Dean of the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki, Päivi Loponen-Kyrönseppä, specialist from the Finnish Cultural Foundation, Taija Lähdetie, Executive Director of the Conservatoire Association, Aleksi Malmberg, Director of the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra and future Director of the Finnish Institute in the UK and Ireland, Olli-Pekka Martikainen, Executive Director of the Association of Finnish Music Schools, and Hanna-Mari Peltomäki, Secretary General of the Jane and Aatos Erkko Foundation. Aleksi Malmberg was elected Chairman of the Steering Group.
The Instrument Academies provide top quality music teaching to Finland's most talented children and young people. They are supported by the Finnish Cultural Foundation and the Jane and Aatos Erkko Foundation.
